About Abol Coffee Co.
What Does Abol Mean?
Abol Coffee Co. grew from a bright idea while visiting a place with no cafetières, filters or brewing equipment. We had brought our delicious coffee with us, but had no way to make it!
All too often, coffee lovers are forced to sacrifice quality for convenience. If you love coffee, you know quality matters. And because we understand quality matters too, we source only single origin Ethiopian Arabica. It’s 100% organic and selected for outstanding taste.
Unlike blends, our single origin coffee has a unique and distinctive flavour profile. Our beans are freshly roasted by experts in our UK Roastery. Each single-serve bag is carefully prepared and individually sealed, for a brew that’s bursting with flavour.
Abol Means Excellence
Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee – the country’s beans are rated among the best in the world. And Ethiopians take coffee very seriously! It’s drunk 3 times a day. The first cup in every brew is called Abol. Abol is the ideal cup you yearn for in the morning. It’s bold and rich with a heady aroma. It’s the coffee we lovingly put in our coffee bags for you to enjoy.
You can discover our latest Sidamo flavour profile here. And look out for our upcoming new Yirgacheffe coffee, on its way to our roastery soon.
My story
My name is Kedist. I am a London-based entrepreneur with a real passion for quality coffee. Growing up in Ethiopia, coffee played a huge part in my upbringing. As a mainstay of Ethiopian culture, drinking coffee is an important indulgent aspect during social events – from breakfast to business meetings and family gatherings.
Like most Ethiopian households, my family made and drank coffee three times a day as is customary, especially when entertaining guests in special coffee ceremonies.
At a young age, I was already enjoying my own cup of coffee in the company of my grandma by whose tutelage, at such early years, I learnt how to roast and prepare the beans myself. What a privilege looking back those years spent with my nan! Despite the quality of its beans, Ethiopia being the birthplace of coffee and world renowned for its quality isn’t as well recognized for its coffee in the way that other coffee growing countries are, especially in the UK. I founded Abol Coffee Co. to help raise awareness of Ethiopian coffee and give it the acclaim it so richly deserves so that more people can enjoy it.
Visiting my grandma’s coffee farm in the province of Wollo, was how I saw first-hand all the hard work, skill and effort involved in sustainable coffee production. As Abol Coffee Co. business continues to grow, my aim is to provide ongoing support to the farms that supply my beans. This is especially important to me.
The concept of single serve coffee bags grew from an idea I had while travelling with no cafetières, filters or coffee brewing equipment. I had brought my delicious Ethiopian coffee with me but had no way to make it! I realised that all too often, coffee lovers are forced to sacrifice quality for convenience. If you love coffee, you know that quality matters. I made it my mission to make it easy for people to enjoy an excellent cup of coffee wherever and whenever they want.
